Introducing a new political blog for 2021

Hello and welcome to a new political blog on this first day of 2021. The aims of this blog are as follows:

  1. To articulate a post-Corbyn political strategy for the British (well, mainly the English and Welsh) left following the difficulties of 2019 and 2020.
  2. To get my political thoughts away from Facebook, which is a graveyard for serious political discourse IMHO.
  3. Occasional interventions on popular culture, media and other topics.
  4. (if possible) to have some fun while doing (1), (2) and (3).
  5. Other priorities as and when they arise.
I was involved in political blogging from 2006 to about 2013 (I'll say more about the old blog in some future posts where relevant) but then drifted into Facebook because of the ease of use and addictiveness of the scrolling news format. It took a few years for me to realise that FB was inimical to rational political discourse, and several more years to get my ass in gear to actually get off the platform. And even now, I haven't left completely. But I'm done making political observations on that platform. For me, it's back to the cutting edge tech of the mid-2000s and boy, does it feel good.

Why "Feering For The Future?" Because Feering is where I live, and I'm gonna be talking about the future a lot.

I'm calling myself "The New Thinker" on this blog - mainly because we urgently need some new thinking, but also as a tribute to a guy who ran a politics blog called "The Thinker" in the early-to-mid 2000s. Sadly that blog isn't there any more, and the content was too Blairite for my tastes anyway, but I liked the sheer chutzpah of the guy calling himself "The Thinker" and this is an attempt to update that vibe (minus the Blairite flavour of course: strictly post-Corbyn here). It's a bit like the jump from The Avengers to The New Avengers. But without Gareth Hunt (or coffee beans).

Anyway that'll do for now. Next up: some thoughts on Brexit (oh goody).
